In a significant milestone for Rwanda's education system, the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) for the academic year 2022/2023 were officially launched today on July 17th,2023. The ceremonies, held at EP St Dominic Kagugu in the Gasabo District and GS Camp Kigali in the Nyarugenge District, were attended by esteemed dignitaries, including Honorable Ministers, Vice Mayor, the Director-General of NESA, and other officials.
At EP St Dominic Kagugu, Dr. Mpabwanamaguru Merard, the Vice Mayor in Charge of Urbanisation and Infrastructure, and the Director-General of NESA joined the Honorable Minister of State in charge of Primary and Secondary Education Gaspard Twagirayezu to inaugurate the PLE. Simultaneously, at GS Camp Kigali, the Honorable Minister of State in charge of ICT and TVET,Irere Claudette, accompanied by Mr. Rubingisa Pudence, the Mayor of Kigali City, led the launch ceremony.
During the event, the Honorable Ministers emphasized the significance of the National Examinations and their profound impact on students' educational journey. Recognizing the critical role these exams play, they highlighted the importance of rigorous assessments in evaluating students' knowledge, skills, and readiness for higher levels of education.
" We extend our best wishes to all the candidates participating in the PLE. May your efforts be rewarded, and may this examination be a testament to your perseverance and commitment to learning. Remember, success is not solely determined by the results achieved but also by the growth and personal development attained throughout the process." Honorable Minister of State in charge of Primary and Secondary Education said.
With a total target of 202,967 candidates, including 91,067 males and 111,900 females, the PLE aims to provide equal opportunities for all students across Rwanda. The commitment to inclusive education is evident as the examinations include 561 candidates with disabilities, comprising 304 males and 257 females. This dedication to ensuring that every student, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to excel deserves commendation.
The launch of the PLE signifies Rwanda's ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and accessibility of education nationwide. By setting clear benchmarks and evaluating students' proficiency, the examinations contribute to raising educational standards and enabling students to pursue their academic aspirations.
