MINEDUC Launches the 2024/2025 Primary Leaving Examinations Across the Country
Monday, June 30, 2025 – Kigali, Rwanda- The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), through the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA), today officially launched the 2024/2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). The ceremonies were conducted simultaneously across six examination centers nationwide, with senior education officials presiding over the events.

This year, a total of 220,840 Primary Six (P6) learners are sitting for the exams, including 120,621 girls and 100,219 boys, enrolled in public, government-aided, and private schools. The exams are taking place in 1,147 centers across the country. The national assessments, which run from June 30 to July 3, 2025, aim to evaluate learners' mastery of competencies outlined in the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) and provide valid placement results for secondary school.

The official launch event in Kigali was led by the Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, at GS Institut Filippo Smaldone (IFS) in Nyarugenge District—an inclusive school hosting 37 candidates, including 13 with hearing impairments.
At the same time, the Minister of State for Education, Claudette Irere, officiated the launch at E.P. St Ignace in Gasabo District, where 232 candidates are sitting the exams, including one learner with a physical disability.

642 candidates with various disabilities are receiving specialized accommodations such as Braille materials, large print exams, assistive recorders, scribes, and extra time allowance —ensuring an inclusive and fair testing environment.
Other simultaneous ceremonies were held in:
Rulindo District (GS Rusiga) led by Ms. Agaba Nassi Besengo, Deputy Director General of RTB.
Speaking to the candidates before the exams began, officials offered words of encouragement, urging them to remain confident and focused. "Today marks the beginning of a journey. Walk it with courage, discipline, and determination," said Minister Nsengimana during his address at IFS.
The PLE will continue over three days, assessing learners in five key subjects: Mathematics, Kinyarwanda, English, Social and Religious Studies, and Science & Elementary Technology.
