MINEDUC Releases Primary and O-Level Examination Results for 2022/2023 School Year

Kigali, September 12, 2023 - The Ministry of Education, has officially released the results for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) and Ordinary Level National Examination (O-Level) for the academic year 2022/2023. These results mark a crucial milestone for students across the country as they prepare to advance to the next level of their education journey.

Grading System Highlights Success

Both the PLE and O-Level examinations were graded on a seven-point scale, with six being the highest-grade denoting excellence and zero indicating a failure. Students who excelled in all examinable subjects achieved the maximum total points, calculated by multiplying the highest-grade value by the number of examinable subjects. On the other hand, the minimum total pass points were determined by multiplying the number of examinable subjects by the grade value corresponding to "Fair."

Primary Level Success

At the primary level, a total of 203,083 candidates were registered for the PLE, with 201,679 students taking the exams. Out of those who took the exams, 201,387 candidates completed all the subjects. The general performance showed a remarkable success rate, with 91.09% of candidates achieving a pass.

Notably, 183,611 students received a pass mention, while 17,952 students received a fail mention. These results demonstrate the dedication and hard work of primary-level students in Rwanda, setting a solid foundation for their future academic pursuits.

O-Level Achievement

For the O-Level examinations, 131,602 students were registered, and 131,051 sat for the exams. Among those who sat for all exams, 130,934 candidates successfully completed them. The overall pass rate for O-Level candidates stood at an impressive 86.97%, indicating a high level of competence.

Within this category, 113,874 candidates received a pass mention, while 17,067 students received a failure mention. The data further reinforces the commitment of secondary-level students in Rwanda to their studies and their determination to excel academically.
