Minister of Education Visits National Examination Marking Centers in Muhanga District

Muhanga District, August 9, 2024 – The Minister of Education, Gaspard Twagirayezu, made a significant visit today to key National Examination marking centers in Muhanga District. The purpose of the visit was to oversee the ongoing marking activities and ensure that the process is conducted smoothly and efficiently.

During his visit, Twagirayezu inspected the marking process at both St. Joseph and College Marie Reine Kabgayi marking centers. He took the opportunity to engage directly with the markers, acknowledging their hard work and emphasizing the importance of maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and fairness in the examination process.

"We are here to ensure that the integrity of our national examinations is upheld," said  Twagirayezu. "The work you are doing is crucial in determining the future of our students, and we must ensure that every paper is marked with the utmost care and precision."

The Minister’s visit included detailed inspections of the marking rooms, where he observed the markers at work and discussed the procedures being followed to ensure consistency across the board. He also took the time to listen to the markers' feedback and suggestions, emphasizing the government's commitment to supporting them in their critical role.

"Our students have worked hard to reach this point, and it is our responsibility to give them the fair and accurate assessments they deserve,"  Twagirayezu added. "I am confident that with your dedication and professionalism, we will achieve this goal."

Twagirayezu's visit concluded with a brief meeting with the team leaders at both centers, where he reiterated the importance of collaboration and communication in ensuring a successful marking process. He also expressed his gratitude to all the markers and examination staff for their continued commitment to excellence.

"The smooth and efficient execution of this process is vital for the credibility of our education system," the Minister stated. "I want to thank each of you for your unwavering dedication to this important task."

The visit by the Minister of Education underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards in the national examination process.

The Director General of NESA Dr. Bernard Bahati stated that National examinations for the 2023/2024 school year are currently being marked by 14,720 markers across 34 marking centers. At GS St. Joseph Kabgayi, 515 markers are responsible for marking the Primary Leaving Examinations, while at College Marie Reine, 510 markers focus on O-Level exams.
