Rwanda Launches PISA 2025 Field Trial
Kigali, May 27, 2024 - The Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Irere Claudette, officially launched the PISA 2025 field trial test at Lycée de Kigali in Kigali city. In her speech, she emphasized the significance of this initiative in comparing Rwanda's educational standards with global benchmarks, noting that the results will lead to improved educational performance and ongoing development in Rwanda.
PISA, conducted by the International Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), is an assessment designed to measure students' ability to apply their knowledge in real-life scenarios, focusing on reasoning and problem-solving skills. The test involves over 80 countries.

"It's hard to quantify the quality of education without measurable data," Claudette stated. "Once we conduct the assessment in 2025, we will gain a clear understanding of our students' achievements. This will enable us to identify areas needing improvement and implement necessary reforms in teaching and learning."
Ishema Mukama Concorde, a student at Lycée de Kigali who participated in the assessment, expressed that the test encourages students to think critically about how they integrate their studies with everyday life. He remarked, "It will help us understand our current level and improve our thinking skills. Combining what we learn with practical applications is challenging but essential."
First launched in 1997, the PISA test began assessing 15-year-old students in 2000. It is conducted every three years, evaluating students' proficiency in reading, mathematics, and science. The main evaluation is scheduled to take place from April 27 to June 7, 2025.
